want_stage 3_having funMike will be seen in the premiere of "Want" June 2009 as the lead role of Mark Whitley.  The story follows a successful businessman that is obsessed about a young woman he is having an affair with.  When the woman breaks off the tryst the man resorts to criminal means in order to have her for himself.  A 25 minute short film written by local award winning filmmaker Steve Karageanes, the script of "Want" was a finalist in the Cinema City International Film Festival in Los Angeles in February of 2009.  The film was shot by local director, producer and director of photography, John Lauri owner of  J. Lauri Filmworks located in Warren, Michigan at Stage 3 productions.  Some of the scenes were shot at Stage 3.  Other scenes were filmed at the prestigious Motor City Casino Hotel as well as Ristorante Cafe' Cortina in Farmington Hills and Greek on the Go Deli in Eastpointe.

"I had so much fun shooting this movie.  It was a great little script.  The cast and crew were absolutely a pleasure to work with.  No egos.  Just doing good work.  The trailer of the film looks fantastic.  I look forward to attending the premiere in June!"

Mike landed the role of "Doug" in the feature film "Trivial Pursuits" that was shot at Ashley's Bar in Ann Arbor and directed by Chris Farrah.  Mike's scene combined alot of successful Hollywood actors including Chris Parnell (SNL), Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty), Arielle Kebbell (Gilmore Girls), Kali Hawk (Last Comic Standing), Nelson Franklin (The Funeral), and Kip Pardue (ER).

Mikes says:  "It was not only a pleasure being part of a feature in my own town, but also working with so many Hollywood stars made it very exciting.  We got to interact with a few of the stars as our characters.  We got good coverage because the it was a culmination scene in the film where all the characters get together for a trivial contest faceoff.  I look forward to seeing the film!

Mike has been cast in an LA film written by Stan Ash called, "U-Haul Adventures".  Ed Burt (a Battle Creek native) who now lives in Las Vegas is one of the producers of the feature film.  Mike will be playing a principle role in the film and possibly the sequel that will be shooting simulataneously begining late Aug/early September 2009 and will be entirely shot in Michigan.  Both are multi-million dollar projects.

"This will be one of the largest budget film projects I have had the pleasure to work on.  They are going to be having a couple Hollywood stars in the film, that it looks like I'll be having the opportunity to work with directly in a number of scenes", Kelly says.

miguelinfreezer_smaller fileFilmed in the Troy area of Michigan from mid July-mid August 2008, Mike was cast as the lead role in a Los Angeles production company film (Rothgar Productions) called, "The Man Who Collected Food".  Playing the role of a hermit that collects vintage packages of food, Mike was challenged to bring out the very dark sides of this complex and psychotic character, while appearing somewhat "normal" to his neighbors and family.   Due to the fact that this man cannot eat any of his food collection because of it's "perceived value", he has to resort to cannibalism.  Horror fans will be delighted with this brilliant script written by Director/Producer Matt Roth that is peppered with dark humor and off-the-wall hilarious characters.

Mike takes Margie Haber's Cold Reading Workshop in LA! PDF Print E-mail

img_0368_smaller file_800x600Mike took Margie Haber's Cold Reading Workshop in West Hollywood in mid October 2008.  Margie is internationally known for her work teaching actors how to auditon for television and film roles.  She has had stars like Brad Pitt, Michael Eastman, Heather Locklear, Halle Berry, Traylor Howard, and Tom Arnold to name just a few.  She teaches students a phrase technique she created that allows auditioners to remain connected to their scene partner as well as connected to the life of the character.  She has a book entitled, How to Get the Part...Without Falling Apart".  Stars that were once not stars have been dramatically influenced positively by her individual help in working on auditions for major roles.  Mike says of Margie:  "I found Margie to be a no-nonsense kind of person.  A woman with so much experience that she can smell the falsehood of an actor trying to "play" a character in a second...even fine actors.  She was such a great influence, and it was a pleasure to learn from somebody with so much knowledge and experience in the industry.  I want to be learning from her again in the future...no doubt...as we don't have that caliber of acting coach in Michigan.
